Family Session - Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

I have had the opportunity of photographing this family several times over the past couple of years. It is fun to see how this family has grown. The boys are growing up so fast, and their daughter is now engaged! Even though off the trail was muddy from recent rains, we were able to get some great shots along the paved trail. Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a great place for pictures. Arbor Hills is located in Plano just off the Dallas North Tollway. This location offers natural surroundings such as creeks, large rocks, bridge and even an observation tower.

Taking pictures of a large family can be difficult and take a lot of time if you are not prepared. I had a blast taking this fun family's pictures, The family ended up having a great time too! When photographing a large family, it is best to do so earlier in the day, especially if there are young children involved. Everyone is usually fresh and rested when conducting a session in the morning. This client really wanted a large family picture so I made sure I took the group picture first, then I took this kids pictures, and then individual families next. When photographing young children, I have been more successful when I don't force the child to pose, but get them in a more natural setting.

Just about any outdoor location can make for a great setting for pictures. This family picture was taken within walking distance from my parents house. The natural backdrop of the woods with its tall trees, bushes and grassy areas are perfect for capturing those shots! You want your surroundings to compliment your subjects not take away from it. Go out there and take a look at what local areas where you live make a great spot for family pictures. You might be surprised at what you find.

Harry Myers Park

Harry Myers Park is one of my favorite places for a photo session. This park is located close to downtown Rockwall, and offers a dog park, swimming pool, community building, three playgrounds including KidZone, walking trails, two baseball fields, three ponds, an
amphitheater, a sprayground, BBQ grills, gazebo, pavilions, natural open spaces and a skate park. I love the park because you can have an entire photo session in the park with literally hundreds of locations for scenic shots. My favorite areas of the park have a cute white gazebo, old white frame house, wooden shed, a small cotton field, ponds and a long bridge that make for awesome pictures. Almost any weekend you go, you will see someone taking pictures. Great location that is in the city, but has lots of outdoor space.
